What to do if You Have Inactive or Fake Followers

It’s easy to scroll through your Instagram feed and get the idea that having a lot of followers is important. Your feed is tailored to show the post popular posts first, so it can start to seem like everyone has 10k+ followers and the endorsements to match. Wrong.

It may seem like everyone is buying followers to get to these insane numbers, but at Heartbeat we know that you are more than your follower count. Fake followers drive down your engagement rate astronomically.

Engagement rate is the primary focus our technology scans for; so fake followers actually hurt your chances of getting a campaign instead of helping.

The good news is it’s easy to get rid of fake followers.

What to look for:

  • 0 posts

  • No profile picture

  • High ratio of people they follow to followers

  • 0 posts in the last 30 days

  • 0 posts in the last 60 days

  • Username filled with random numbers

What to do: Block and then unblock them, and they will be removed from your follower list.

Note: If you have a lot of followers and suspect they are fake you may need to use a third party service to identify and delete them all, but just take it a little at a time
